User Research

Through our research, we found two key areas where posture management could be improved: people’s unconscious poor posture during prolonged sitting and their inability to stay aware of posture due to deep concentration on work or study.


That is, when people focus intensely, they often lose awareness of their sitting posture, leading to unhealthy alignment over time.

Define pain points

Through brainstorming, we found two feasible solutions.


Firstly, to improve users’ posture awareness through real-time sensing and intuitive feedback.


Secondly, to provide gentle, adaptive physical

support using an intelligent air-bladder system that helps users naturally return to a neutral sitting position.

Load libraries, set pins, and define thresholds for detecting and adjusting posture abnormalities.

Continuously collect X-axis acceleration data to determine posture (forward, backward, or neutral).

The system is controlled by an Arduino Nano, integrating MPU6050 posture detection, relay control, and battery power supply to achieve portable posture correction.

Coding and Test

The electromagnetic valve works in conjunction with the air pump to correct posture in real time.

The airbag is the core actuator that interacts with the user, gently correcting bad posture through inflation.

With SITGUARD, leg-crossing events drop significantly vs. no device—a clear, consistent reduction that shows it effectively curbs poor-posture behavior.

After 4 hours, comfort skews high (most >7/10) with no discomfort outliers—nudges are gentle, low-disruption, and long-wearable.
